The route for the Tour De Yorkshire 2018 and the Asda Women’s Tour De Yorkshire has been revealed, and yes, ring those cycle bells, we are back on le map. The race starts on the 3rd May 2018 and stage one of the Tour starts in Beverley and finishes in Doncaster a distance of 182km. The ladies race starts later in the day and is a distance of 132.5Km.
Hopefully, you can see from the map the route takes in some of the villages in our patch. The route brings the riders down the A164 from Beverley turning through Skidby, Little Weighton, Walkington, Cherry Burton and Eton.
It has been reported that Mark Cavendish is keen to take part along with other big names in the cycling world. The blog will keep you informed with news and planned events for the day. The last time (2015) the race swept through the village, in what seemed like seconds, the atmosphere was electric and the village put on a real welcome.
I can still remember the Police motor cycle escort passing through the village at least three times waiting for the riders to arrive. The crowd were eager to cheer anybody on a bike and those Police motorcyclists had never been cheered so much. So what happened to all that bunting and all those blue and yellow painted bikes, they must be in somebody’s shed.
