Liam had his first taste of bowls aged 9 at North Cave bowls club when he attended a fund raiser for Eastrington Cricket Club. He was told then he had a smooth, natural delivery and a good eye for the game. He started attending on a Sunday morning for beginners and quickly became involved in a novice league. After a year indoors, he was invited to play outdoors at Blackburns in Brough with the guys he had been playing indoors with.
As time went on he played in more leagues and started entering competitions. Aged 12 he first won the U16’s and U25’S Humberside outdoor singles. He has won them a few times now adding the Men’s Champion of Champions title too!
After a few years at Blackburns Liam moved over to Walkington to allow him to enter EBA competitions as well as EBF and to play for Yorkshire which he quickly did at U25 and Men’s level. This then led to him being asked to trial for the England squad. He has played for England U18s indoors in 2017 and 2018 along with England u18 outdoors 2018. He is now too old!!
He has had trials indoors and outdoors for England u25’s but has not made the team yet!! So far Liam has won 4 National titles. He is currently the EBA U18’s Indoor National Champion (2019) as well as the EBF U25 indoor singles Champion 2019. He also won this title in 2017 aged 16. Liam was part of the Yorkshire U25 squad who won the National Double Rink title in 2018.
He has won numerous singles titles at County level in both Humberside and Yorkshire as well as at club level indoors and out! A big achievement was winning 3 singles titles at Walkington in 2017 aged just 16. The presentation that year saw Liam needing help to carry everything!
Liam was told early on that he would one day play for England and in 9 years he has achieved so much and they were right!!
Walkington Bowling Club is proud to have Liam as a member and wish him well in his future endeavours. He is now going to balance university with bowls but still has plenty of years in him!
