The sun was shining, the bunting gently blowing in the breeze and Teal Close was preparing to celebrate VE Day in a relaxed, family grouping and social distancing kind of way. The level of participation was very high and I suppose many of us were just looking for a good reason to go out and join our friends and neighbours in sharing a drink and a piece of cake, even at a distance.
We had 1940’s music gently playing at both ends of Teal Close and we had a few members of our little community who might just have remembered the original VE Day celebrations. I think we will all have seen the black and white photos and the old news reels of the celebrations and it’s hard to imagine what it must have been like to suddenly have the prospect of peace after so many years of war.
As Teal Close is a cul-de-sac there was no through traffic although we did have the young lady from the Fergie delivering a couple of the Fergie’s special celebration teas which I am assured were delicious.
The afternoon ended with the party goers singing Happy 89th Birthday to two of our neighbours and I must say, that after sharing a bottle of prosecco and a bottle of white wine, I was seeing a few blue birds flying over Teal Close. Well done everybody.
