As I was away for a long weekend break, in the Lakes, I was unable to attend the Grand Final of the Walkington Quiz Season, which took place in the Village Hall on 15th March. However, I am able to provide you with the results and a few photos of the evening, and as they say a picture is worth……..

The competition, which started last October, is a contest between various village organisations and societies, who battle it out over the following months with the aim of reaching the Grand Final and lifting the Jenkinson Trophy.

The three successful teams who reached this year’s final were the Awesome Foursome, All Hallows Church and the Pond Committee. I am told that the final was close fought all the way, with the Awesome Foursome leading until the last round when they were overtaken by All Hallows Church.

The final scores were All Hallows 55 points, the Awesome Foursome 52 points and the Pond Committee with 42 points.

The quizmaster was Dennis Johnson and the scorer Anne Brookes. A big thank you to all those who took part and congratulations to All Hallows Church on another great win.

The quiz season is not entirely over because we still have the annual challenge match between the Brains of Walkington and Hull University Chemistry Faculty to look forward to. This will be held on Friday 12th April, in the Village Hall starting at 7:30pm. The two teams play for the Dr Mike Scrowston Memorial Trophy which is currently held by the University. The word on the street is that we want it back!!  This is always a good night, so come along and support the Brains of Walkington in their fight to regain the trophy.

As usual the entry fee of £1:00 includes tea, coffee and biscuits at the interval. So, put 12th April – Village Hall – 7:30 in your diary.

Editors Note: A huge thanks to Mark Smith for taking the photos.
